If you are just starting to play the saxophone, the lessons include technique, music reading, playing blues and jazz songs, and improvisation. I use the book 'Learn as you play Saxophone' by Peter Wastall (with play-along CD) and a self-compiled songbook (available for free download, including play-along mp3's).
If you have a grasp of the basics and want to progress with improvisation, I ensure that you have continuous guidance (mp3's) for practice at home. Where necessary, we can also delve into the theory of chords and scales. And, of course, you can always bring in your own repertoire for us to study together.
If you want to play together with other students or musicians, there are various workshops and jam sessions in the city. And, of course, as a student (once you can find most of the notes on your horn and read reasonably well), you can also join one of my own jazz workshops.
At many music stores, you can rent a saxophone. Often you can get a portion or all of the rental fee refunded if you decide to purchase one later. If you prefer to buy, consider getting a used saxophone as it tends to hold its value better than a new one if you decide to upgrade later. If you buy from a private seller, always have the saxophone checked by a reputable repairer first to avoid expensive surprises later.
